In Ayurveda it has been emphasised that the herbo mineral drugs should be taken in powder form and that too by mixing the powder with honey or ghee. This might be as per the reason that the science of that time have acknowledge the fact that these medicine should be treated as food & not just as bunch of chemicals and in “ Bhagwat Geeta” good food is defined as:
“Food that increases a person's age, intellect, strength, immunity, and brings cheerfulness have following characteristics: it should be juicy, it should be lubricious, it should reside in the body for some time (i.e. fibrous etc), and it should be acceptable to the body (i.e. it should not cause nausea etc) & this type of food are preferred by person who are Satvik (i.e. a True Gentleman).”
Chapter 17, 8 shlok
And as said in some other portion of this blog, like our palm, our feet know their job similarly our internal organs knows their job but they work under a protocol, i.e. they will identify the substance you are feeding in as food, but if it doesn’t classify the intake as food than it may treat it as a foreign material, hence for drug to be effective and reaching the target it might be that the ancient Indian wanted these drugs to be treated as food and by applying honey or ghee over them we provide them the desirable qualities of food such as Juicy, lubricious and the drugs will have higher residence time as it will be synthesised more inside our body as it will be treated as food and not a foreign material, the small particle size of the medicine which is in the form of nano size i.e. in nm might be attributed to the fact that mineral such as iron is present in spinach, but body treat spinach as food and synthesise the iron in it, similarly mixture of mineral drugs in nano size will be synthesized when present in Honey or Ghee.
Hence the Ayurveda companies instead of following the modern methodology in which they are changing the bhasma medicine in to tablet, they should work for increasing the awareness among the public over the signifance of Bhasma medicine and it use in powder form and use of honey or ghee with its intake.
